Star Trek: Resurgence launches on May 23

Dramatic Labs, a developer composed of former Telltale game developers, has announced a new release date for the narrative adventure game Star Trek: Resurgence. The game was originally slated for a spring 2022 release but will now be launched on May 23rd, 2023 for PC via the Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, with the exception of the Nintendo Switch.

If you’re familiar with Telltale’s adventure games, such as The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, then you’ll recognize the focus on tough decision-making over fast-paced action in Star Trek: Resurgence. The Star Trek franchise is well-suited to this gameplay style due to the thoughtful nature of its stories.

Star Trek: Resurgence takes place in a timeline that falls after Star Trek: The Next Generation, but before Star Trek: Picard, and somewhat coincides with the events of Star Trek: Lower Decks. As is typical for the Star Trek franchise, there are multiple timelines to keep track of. The game has two playable main characters, both of whom are new to fans.

Nevertheless, Dramatic Labs has hinted at the inclusion of characters from the wider universe and has confirmed the involvement of Spock in the storyline. Not the Spock from the original Star Trek and its sequels, mind you, but the elder Ambassador Spock as seen in The Next Generation. The plot centres on preventing a conflict between two extraterrestrial races, a cause that would undoubtedly be supported by the Vulcan ambassador.
